Jack drew three triangles to form a figure. The areas of the triangles were in the ratio 1 : 5 : 10. He then shaded some parts of the figure as shown. What is the ratio of the total area of the shaded parts to the area of the figure?

1. 5 : 12
2. 5 : 21
3. 7 : 12
4. 2 : 3

\(\text{Let unit area} = 1\)
\(\text{Triangles have areas } 1, 5, 10\)
\(\text{Total area} = 1 + 5 + 10 = 16... \text{(adjust by shaded regions per figure)}\)
