Question

George and Hariz started jogging at the same time but in opposite directions on a sidewalk from one traffic light crossing to the other traffic light crossing. George's speed was 5 m/s and Hariz's speed was 4 m/s. Both of them did not change their speeds throughout. After jogging for 1 minute, how far apart were George and Hariz from each other?
Answer: 47 m

Worked solution

  1. Combined speed = $5 + 4 = 9$ m/s
  2. combined distance in 60 s = $9 \times 60 = 540$ m. Distance apart = $540 - 493 = 47$ m.
