The figure below shows a big circle and a small circle. The big circle has a diameter of 28 cm. Find the area of the small circle. (Take $\pi = \frac{22}{7}$)
Answer: 3

Worked solution

  1. \text{Big circle diameter} = 28 \text{ cm, so big radius} = 14 \text{ cm}
  2. \text{From the figure, the small circle has radius } 7 \text{ cm}
  3. \text{Area} = \pi r^2 = \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times 7
  4. = 154 \text{ cm}^2
