Nanyang 2025 P6 Maths Prelim — Paper 2 Q2 Solution

Paper 2 · Q2 · 2 marks · Money

Question

The table shows the parking charges at a carpark: For the first hour or less $\$2.70$; for every additional $\frac{1}{2}$ hour or less $\$1.20$. Reisha parked her car from 8.15 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. on Tuesday. How much did she have to pay?
Answer: $7.50

Worked solution

  1. Total parking time $= 2\text{ h }45\text{ min}$. First hour costs $\$2.70$. Remaining $1\text{ h }45\text{ min}$ needs $4$ blocks of $\frac{1}{2}$ hour, costing $4 \times \$1.20 = \$4.80$. Total $= \$2.70 + \$4.80 = \$7.50$.
