Nanyang 2025 P6 Maths Prelim — Paper 2 Q3 Solution
Question
A museum is open to visitors seven days a week. The total number of visitors to the museum from Monday to Friday last week was 1557. The average number of visitors on Monday and Tuesday last week was fewer than the average number of visitors from Wednesday to Friday last week. For each statement, indicate whether it is True, False or Not possible to tell.
Answer: Statement 1: True; Statement 2: Not possible to tell; Statement 3: Not possible to tell
Worked solution
- Statement 1: average Mon-Fri $= 1557 \div 5 = 311.4$ — True. Statement 2: weekend (Sat, Sun) visitors are unknown, so the Mon-Sun average cannot be found — Not possible to tell. Statement 3: only that the Mon-Tue average is fewer than the Wed-Fri average is known, which does not fix the Wed-Fri average relative to 312 — Not possible to tell.
