Question

A cuboid and a cube are joined together to form a rectangular block as shown. The length of the cube is 3 cm. The volume of the cuboid is 5 times the volume of the cube. What is the volume of the rectangular block?
Answer: 162 cm^3

Worked solution

  1. Volume of cube $= 3 \times 3 \times 3 = 27\text{ cm}^3$. Volume of cuboid $= 5 \times 27 = 135\text{ cm}^3$. Volume of block $= 135 + 27 = 162\text{ cm}^3$.
