A fitness club had 280 members in 2023. 40% of the members were females and the rest were males. In 2024, the number of male members increased by 37.5% and the female members dropped to 84 members. (a) Find the percentage decrease in the number of female members from 2023 to 2024.
Answer: 25%

Worked solution

  1. Female members in 2023 $= 40\% \times 280 = 112$. Decrease $= 112 - 84 = 28$. Percentage decrease $= \frac{28}{112} \times 100\% = 25\%$.
